Hybrid Car Rental:Hybrid autos for rent. So I’m on holiday or away on business and I’ve got to rent a car.
There’s not much chance of me getting an electric car to rent so what about hybrid car rental?
Even the most extreme gas guzzler at home might have the urge to rent a hybrid just to tell everyone how awful it was when he gets home (but there’s a good chance he’s going to secretly fall in love with it!). It could be a great way for someone thinking about buying a hybrid vehicle to test one out too. Even if you already own a hybrid it could be a great way to test out another model. So where do I get one? There are quite a few of the big names renting hybrids these days.
Enterprise has the largest selection of hybrid autos to rent at the moment.
Hertz have a good range of hybrid vehicles too with the Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Altima hybrid in 50 major US airports.
Other big companies like Avis also rent hybrids.
With all the companies however the hybrids available depend on the location. Just because Enterprise or another agency has an office in your destination doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed a hybrid. In the USA there are also quite a few smaller companies renting hybrid cars right now like Western Road Trips in Utah and Eqocar in California. Can I just rent one at any normal rent a car? Yes you can! The only problem is availability in certain areas.
You can check online from most rental company’s websites where each hybrid they rent is available.
They mostly need you to book the specific car in advance and that’s it.
Will it be more expensive? Yes they will! Most hybrids will cost slightly more to rent and as they're not available in most places you can't shop around as much to find the best deal. Are there any perks? Besides the great mpg and less emissions you also get some free perks like no congestion charge in major cities like London and free parking in certain places.
You also get to boast to everyone about how much better off they are now that you’re saving the environment by driving a hybrid...they don’t need to know it’s a rental!
Is there any point? Well it depends what you’re looking to get from it. If you rent a hybrid for the experience it’s definitely worth it, especially if you rent it long enough to see how far a tank of petrol will take you. If you drive a hybrid already I think you won’t be able to enjoy anything else! So really hybrid car rental is still really a speciality unless you’re somewhere like on the west coast of America.
I’d say it’s always worth it to check though and don’t just think that there’s never going to be hybrid autos for rent where you’re going because you never know.
