About My Family's Search for the perfect mix of All-Electric Vehicles for our Everyday Use. Hi there - if you've read the Homepage already you'll know that I'm eighteen, living with my Mum, Dad, sister, Dog, and 2 cats outside Cork City in Ireland.
I recently got my first car driving licence and I'm ready to hit the road! I love cars and have recently figured out that all-electric vehicles (Electric Cars, Electric Scooters and Electric Bicycles) and the way for the future. So, I thought that I might as well get in early and figure out what's out there, how they compare with "normal" cars and bikes AND which is the best one (or, hopefully more than one) for me and my family for the future.  So, what are the current needs of our family? First of all, I'd like to introduce my Family - The Collins Family. We live in a house about 5 miles outside the centre of Cork City in the south of ireland. There are four of us and one easily excited dog so one of our main needs is obviously going to fit everyone in an electric car comfortably, and after looking at some of the electric cars out there I don’t think this is going to be too easy to find as most of the are about the size of my fridge. But I'm jumping ahead. I should introduce you to each of the family and tell you a little bit more about what they want from my great search for the perfect family all-electric vehicles. So, I'll start with myself: Evan Collins. I'm seventeen at the moment (2008) and I go to school where I am doing my Leaving Certificate year. I hope to go to college next year but I still trying to figure out what I'd like to do. I drive a Honda petrol moped at the moment (when it starts!!!) and I also just got my full driving licence the family Peugeot 207.  My needs for an Electric Vehicle are to get me around the hilly neighbourhood I live in and to school (about 4 miles away) and to all of my friends houses. I'm looking for a bit of coolness and style (how about a Tesla - in my dreams!!!) - which can be quite a challenge when you have a look at some of the Electric Vehicles I have lined up. Now let me introduce you to my Mom: Carina Collins My Mom has a CranioSacral Therapy practice which she works out of home. So most of her transport needs involve meeting friends, doing errands and looking after so much else in the family (thanks, Mom!).  She also would like to get out more on a bicycle for fresh air but the hills in the area are putting her off. She likes the sound of the Electric Bicycle. Next my Dad: Mike Collins My Dad runs a Business Coaching practice and goes around seeing clients based around Cork City in his Volkswagen Passat.  He needs something that you can drive into a client and it looks ok. He also used to be big into cycling and I think would like to go back to it - but like my Mom, the hills are putting him off.
I also think he's having a mid-life crisis and would like to get a cool motorbike! How about an Electric Motorcycle? Now on to my sister:  Rosaleen Collins My sister Rosaleen is going to the same school as me - except she has another 3 years to go (poor her). She'll will be sweet sixteen in April of 2009 and has already got her eye on my moped to get her around in style. She won't be able to drive a car for another year after that. I wonder can I interest her in an Electric Scooter? I suppose the other thing is that we might like to travel TOGETHER now and again. So, if we get an electric car, it has to be able to fit all of us and travel a fair distance - and not look like the back of a bus!!!
